Forest or grassland fire

What to do

  1. If fire threatens, help people leave without exposing yourself. Do not wait for an official warning.
  2. Follow routes and destinations given by authorities.
  3. From safety, call and report the fire location and anyone missing.
  4. Keep others away from hot ash, burned trees and wires.
  5. Child/person needing assistance: accompany only along safe exit, no re-entry. Unable to escape: give exact location/mobility to rescue. No improvised rope/unsafe stair carrying.
  6. Route blocked by fire/smoke: do not cross. Report location, people and route to rescue. Seek authority-directed alternative. No blind driving or relying on river/ditch shelter.
