What to do
- Chest pressure/tight pain, pain spreading to arm/jaw or severe breathlessness: call now. Do not wait to confirm a heart attack.
- Breathlessness without chest pain, cold sweat, nausea or back/jaw pain can occur too. Mild or intermittent symptoms do not rule it out: get help.
- Stop exertion. Sit or lie comfortably with support. Do not walk. Have someone stay if possible.
- Awake adult swallowing safely: ask the dispatcher about chewing 300 mg aspirin. Avoid with known allergy or without confirming suitability. Do not delay the call.
- For known angina and their own prescribed medicine, help follow their usual instructions. Do not use someone else’s medicine.
- If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
- Give location and symptoms. No phone or signal: ask someone to call from a safe place. Do not delay help to collect belongings.
- Stay and watch response and breathing. Report changes. If unresponsive, call now and open CPR if breathing is abnormal.
What to avoid
- Do not drive yourself or walk to hospital.
- Aspirin branch is adult-only, not for children. Pregnancy, previous medical prohibition or uncertainty: request individual advice. Do not delay emergency help.
