Seizure during pregnancy or after birth

What to do

  1. Seizure during pregnancy: emergency help now. Do not wait 5 minutes.
  2. After giving birth, also get immediate help for seizures. Report the birth date.
  3. Cushion the head. Clear nearby hazards and note start/end times.
  4. After jerking stops, check response and breathing. Abnormal breathing: CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  5. Unresponsive but breathing normally, without trauma: place on their side and monitor.
  6. Stay with her. Rescue medicine only under her plan and if trained.
  7. After the seizure: unresponsive with abnormal breathing, adult CPR and AED. Report pregnancy/birth date. After a fall minimise movement. Airway first.

What to avoid

  1. Do not restrain her or put anything in her mouth.
  2. No food or drink until fully recovered.
