Instructions for helping someone else

Dog or other animal bite

What to do

  1. First avoid another attack. Do not touch the animal or separate fighting animals.
  2. Heavy bleeding: press with clean cloth. Deep wound or bleeding that will not stop: emergency care.
  3. For possible rabies, wash with soap and water at least 15 minutes. Do not delay help for severe bleeding.
  4. Every animal bite needs medical assessment. Bring the animal vaccination record if already available.
  5. Scratch, animal saliva in wound/eye/mouth or direct bat contact: urgent rabies assessment even without visible bite. No handling animal to identify it or symptom waiting.
  6. After washing, cover clean. Hand/foot/face/head, hot/swollen wound, fluid/pus or fever: urgent care. Torn-off part: amputation guide. Ask company/transport. No driving with severe injury.

What to avoid
