What to do

  1. Get help. Do not use the injury or put weight on an injured leg.
  2. Report numbness or coldness.
  3. Pale, cold sweat, weak or less responsive: emergency help now. Keep warm in tolerated position, do not raise injured leg/hip. Watch response/breathing. No walking.
  4. Cold/numb or changed-colour hand/foot: report immediately. Support bandage too tight: loosen only that bandage. Never loosen a bleeding tourniquet. Do not drive. Request safe transport.
  5. Ask someone to stay. Report faintness, breathing trouble or heavy bleeding now. Do not move or bear weight on injured limb while waiting.
