Fall from height

What to do

  1. Before approaching, check for more falling objects or people.
  2. Fall from height: call emergency services and report where they fell from.
  3. If awake: neck still and comfortable. Do not make them walk to test ability.
  4. If unresponsive: keep the airway open with the dispatcher. Breathing and CPR take priority over the neck.
  5. If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  6. Severe skin bleeding: press with clean cloth. Not over embedded objects or exposed bone.
  7. Stay and monitor response and breathing. Protect from cold or heat.
  8. Child after fall: changed behaviour, marked sleepiness or seizure needs urgent help. Under1year head swelling/bruise/large cut: emergency help. Do not lift to test.
  9. Immediate danger or blocked airway: only necessary movement, follow dispatcher. No unsafe solo transfer. Another calls while you help. Give location/access.

What to avoid

  1. Do not force straightening or improvise neck traction.
