What to do
- Get help. If another crash/fire threatens life, escape only by a safe route with minimum necessary movement. Ask help. Without immediate danger, stay still. Do not test walking even without pain.
- With neck or back pain, stay still and tell the dispatcher.
- If breathing comfortably, leave your helmet on and do not stand to test yourself.
- If there is no immediate danger, help the person stay still and comfortable. Do not force their body straight. Tell the dispatcher if they vomit, struggle to breathe, become weak or get worse. Stay with them. If safe, ask someone else to call or meet the rescue team.
- If the child is safe in their car seat, leave them there. Do not remove them as a routine step. If there is immediate danger or the child needs CPR or help breathing, follow the dispatcher. Tell them the child’s age and whether they are restrained or trapped.
What to avoid
- Compressing motorcycle: release only if physically possible and safe, without unstable loads/exposure. Otherwise rescue now. No fixed waiting cutoff.
- No food or drink. Do not pull someone from a vehicle except for danger or lifesaving care.
