Diabetes with vomiting, drowsiness or extreme thirst

What to do

  1. Thirst with vomiting, deep breathing, drowsiness or confusion: call emergency services, even without known diabetes. Do not wait for a reading.
  2. Use available glucose/ketone meters. Do not delay help.
  3. If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  4. Have medicines ready for responders. Medical assessment is needed. Do not let them drive.

What to avoid

  1. Do not improvise insulin doses or stop it yourself.
