Vomiting blood

What to do

  1. Get medical help. Dark coffee-like vomit may also be blood.
  2. Do not drive. Have medicines ready.
  3. Vomiting: onto your side if safe and no injury. Ask someone to stay. Report breathing trouble or faintness immediately.
  4. Cold/pale skin, shallow breathing, black stool or feeling very unwell with blood vomit: emergency help. Baby: do not assume only swallowed blood from feeding.

What to avoid

  1. Do not ignore blood even if vomiting stops.
