What to do
- For violence or danger now, alert police from somewhere safe.
- Talk privately if safe. Listen without blame or pressure to disclose or leave.
- If injured, offer to accompany them to medical care. Ask what help they need.
- For women, SOS Mujer 137 offers support. A police report is separate.
- Once you are safe, ask someone you trust to stay with you, away from the attacker. Tell them where you are and whether you can move or speak. If danger returns, go to another safe place and report it. Do not wait to collect evidence.
- Neck compression/suffocation: medical assessment now even no marks. Voice/swallow/breathing change, fainting/confusion: emergency now. No symptom waiting or neck massage.
- Child present: safe uninvolved adult/child protection. No confronting aggressor or disclosing refuge. No safe exit: tell dispatcher location. No dangerous improvised transport.
What to avoid
- Do not confront the abuser or arrange mediation during danger.
- Quick exit does not erase history or monitoring. Changing passwords/access may increase risk: get safety-planning support.
