Possible carbon monoxide exposure

What to do

  1. CO alarm: get outside and call from outside, even if nobody feels ill.
  2. If already inside, get outside. Do not enter to rescue without equipment and training. Call rescuers.
  3. Breathing difficulty, confusion, fainting, weakness or chest pain: emergency help now.
  4. Once safe: if unresponsive and breathing abnormally, follow dispatcher CPR guidance.
  5. Report pregnancy, babies or heart/breathing illness. Do not wait for symptoms to worsen.
  6. Even if better outside, get medical assessment. Stay outside. Report changes in breathing or response.
  7. If someone cannot leave, tell rescuers their location. Do not enter or send anyone without equipment and training.

What to avoid

  1. Do not return to the building or drive yourself.
  2. No smell does not mean safe.
