What to do

  1. Speak with occupants and call lift maintenance. Keep contact.
  2. For smoke, fire or serious illness, call emergency services and report entrapment.
  3. No answer or intercom failure: use a phone if it has signal, or call out for someone outside to alert help. Do not climb out.
  4. Give building, lift location, number of people and special support needs. Report new symptoms or smoke.

What to avoid

  1. Do not force doors or escape through roof/between floors.
  2. Do not improvise resets or electrical shutoffs. Wait for qualified personnel.
