What to do
- Do not climb down or enter to rescue without specialist training and equipment.
- Call firefighters. Report well/tank and whether responsive. Speak from outside.
- At work: activate the trained rescue team and plan as well as emergency services. No improvised rope or extraction. Do not become a second casualty.
- Give exact location, known depth, water/grain, injuries and breathing changes. No phone: call out or tap to signal. No entering or blind climbing.
- Unresponsive or submerged: extreme urgency, but stay out. Do not lean inside or descend for CPR. Request technical rescue. Provide care after safe extraction.
What to avoid
- Do not rely on smell or an ordinary mask for entry.
