Instructions for helping yourself

Fever with confusion or rapid deterioration

What to do

  1. Get immediate help if rapidly worsening. Do not drive.
  2. Have your medicines to hand.
  3. Lie comfortably or sit if that feels better. Ask someone to stay and report worsening.
  4. Give location and symptoms. No phone or signal: ask someone to call from a safe place. Do not delay help to collect belongings.
  5. Baby: weak/continuous cry, no feeding, very cold or abnormal response: emergency help. Report pregnancy/recent birth or reduced immunity. Do not wait for a thermometer.
  6. Unable to explain symptoms: report changes from usual behaviour. Very unwell: get help even without every sign.
