What to do

  1. Stop activity and check that approaching is safe. Keep others away from danger without exposing yourself.
  2. Stop play. Head impact with dizziness or confusion: medical assessment.
  3. After head impact, confusion, vomiting or unresponsiveness: call emergency services.
  4. Unresponsive, abnormal breathing or severe bleeding: emergency help now.
  5. If awake: neck still and comfortable. Do not make them walk to test ability.
  6. If unresponsive: keep the airway open with the dispatcher. Breathing and CPR take priority over the neck.
  7. If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  8. Injured joint: support without force. No weight on the leg.
  9. Collapse without impact can also be medical emergency. If unresponsive, call now: gasps or abnormal breathing are not normal. Use CPR guide.
  10. Stay if safe. Watch response and breathing. Protect from cold or heat without unnecessary movement. Report changes.

What to avoid

  1. Do not resume play just because dizziness stopped.
  2. Do not try to put a dislocated joint back.
