What to do

  1. If they appear to need help and approaching is safe, ask if they want help. For illness or unresponsiveness, request medical help.
  2. If the situation becomes violent, leave by a safe exit and get help from a protected place.
  3. Threat or immediate danger: call emergency services. Without immediate danger: use the local non-urgent channel.
  4. Say where you are and what you saw or heard. State what you do not know.
  5. Wait somewhere protected. Report if unable to leave or speak. Without a phone, ask someone to call from safety. Report changing danger.

What to avoid

  1. Do not confront or approach to investigate. Your safety comes first.
  2. Appearance, origin, religion or disability are not evidence of danger. Describe specific facts.
  3. Do not follow, search or photograph someone to publish as suspicious. Seek help for concrete events, not appearance.
