Older person fallen and unable to get up

What to do

  1. Unable to get up or possible head, neck, back or hip injury: call emergency services.
  2. Keep them warm and comfortable. Do not try to lift them yourself.
  3. With possible neck or back injury, avoid unnecessary movement. Follow the dispatcher.
  4. If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  5. Do not make them stand to test ability. Fire or immediate danger: tell rescuers. Airway and life-saving care take priority. Follow the dispatcher.
  6. Stay if safe, watch response and breathing. Report changes.

What to avoid

  1. Do not drag or lift them to test walking.
