Fainting / severe dizziness

What to do

  1. Awake, feeling faint, no injury: help lie down with legs raised. Late pregnancy: on side. Do not force positioning.
  2. Fainting during exercise, while lying down or with palpitations: emergency help now. If unresponsive, do not wait a minute.
  3. Call for incomplete recovery, chest pain, serious injury or speech/movement problems.
  4. If unresponsive: call emergency services. If breathing is abnormal, start CPR with dispatcher guidance.
  5. If safe, stay and watch response and breathing. Report changes to emergency services.
  6. Even if better, seek medical advice after fainting. Do not drive yourself for urgent care.
