Instructions for helping someone else

Strong wind / falling trees or roofs

What to do

  1. Find a sturdy building and an interior room.
  2. No building nearby: seek an enclosed car away from trees and wires. When driving, keep away from trucks and buses.
  3. Before winds arrive, help people leave lightweight shelters for a sturdy building.
  4. Injured or trapped people: call emergency services from safety. Report location, numbers and hazards.
  5. If stopping the car, leave the traffic flow and avoid trees, wires and signs. Do not block the road.

What to avoid

  1. Avoid trees and fallen wires. They may be live.
